The Lowell Five Bank Employee Charitable Giving Committee (ECGC) selected Alternative House to receive its 4th Quarter 2023 Award. For over 40 years, Alternative House has helped thousands of survivors of domestic violence in the Greater Lowell Area. They not only offer immediate emergency assistance via their 24-hour hotline (1(888) 291-6228 but also provide victims of domestic violence and their children with shelter, support, children’s programs, and legal/housing/community advocacy.
On January 24, 2024, Lowell Five’s Executive Team, Jay Stephens, Alison Kalman, Maura Sweeney, and Alternative House Board Member and ECGC Member Yanelly Cruz visited Alternative House to present the $10,000 Employee Charitable Giving Award, where they saw first-hand how the award will be put to good use. Alternative House Operations Director Sarah Anderson and Director of Community Engagement Natalie Bergeron-Tarmey led the group on a short tour of Alternative House’s Children’s Visitation Center. They explained the non-profit’s plans to expand the facility to include a children’s play area.
“Alternative House is so appreciative that the Bank’s Employee Charitable Giving Committee chose our organization as one of the recipients of their quarterly Charitable Giving Award,” commented Sarah Anderson. “These funds will go far in helping us to serve survivors of domestic violence and their children, with safety and support services, and children’s programs.”
In addition to the award donation, Lowell Five held two employee raffles to raise additional funds for the non-profit. The money raised was used to purchase hundreds of personal care products and household items, which the ECGC Committee organized into gift bags for Alternative House residents.
Lowell Five’s employees each year choose four charitable organizations from a list of employee-elected nominees to receive a Quarterly Employee Charitable Giving Award. The ECGC Award comprises the total employee-elected charitable payroll contribution for the financial quarter matched 100% by Lowell Five Bank.
